Aircraft Console

A main view of the sheet metal console, showing the simple panel designs and cutouts for various mountable components.

After making my KV2 model, I decided to take a break from working on vehicles and wanted to design a simulator section for myself after being recommended dozens of videos online showcasing full, accurate-to-life simulators. Although extremely optimistic and never made, I feel this experience did give me valuable insight into how components would fit with sheet metal, and modelling with the sheet metal utility itself.

Once I decided to start this model, I received help from my teacher on working with the sheet metal tool inside Autodesk Inventor (I hadn’t switched to Fusion 360 at the time). Once I knew how to work the tool in a basic way, I launched off from there- adding sections and separate components rapidly, with accurate mounting holes based on the reference cockpit design I chose, the F16. Although I ended up stopping work on the model once I was done with the sheet metal for the main dashboard, the experience helped me with designing for components and component placements, and learning the nuances of the sheet metal tool within Inventor.
