Design: Paris Class Frigate
A back view of the ship, showing the intensity and depth of detail all over, especially around the ports and their working mechanisms
Around Christmas 2023, I began work on this ship as a part of a commission set that I was doing for 3D modelling within Blender, not CAD. This ship ended up being one of two completed ones that I submitted before the project was shut down for external reasons. This ship, based on the Paris-Class Frigate from the Halo game series, took the better part of a month to create, and is quite optimized (as in, special consideration was given to the amount of geometry and computing power it took to process in a game) for a model that I created nearly two years ago, when I wasn’t quite as good at optimizing as I model.
This ship was designed to be fully functional- and it is. Every door, hatch, and silo opens on this model, revealing launch tubes, entrances, or other miscellaneous details underneath. While this model wasn’t fully completed by the texturer that I had to hand it off to, my modelling side for it was complete, and I am extremely proud of the results. This model stands out to me as it is the first model which I made that I took a lot of time for. Every model before this one was a week at most, but with this one, I slowly worked through the model- iterating and reiterating components to ensure it was the absolute maximum quality that I could achieve.
A frontal shot of the ship, angled. Here, some of the more complex components of the model are visible- including the rifling around the cannon, and the detail in the booms of the ship.
